A trend of late: across the country, college students are aiding the investigation of old murder cases. One recent case involved criminal justice students in Florida who are probing a string of murders by a serial killer.
Now some journalism students from Michigan have reopened an old case involving the murder of a woman who died before they were born. The result: astounding.
The journalism students at Hope College are credited with solving the murder of Janet Chandler, a young store clerk who was kidnapped and killed in Holland, Michigan, 27 years ago. The students conducted interviews, reviewed the media coverage of the murder, followed new leads, and made a documentary about the case, "Who Killed Janet Chandler?"

The documentary directly led to the reinvigoration of the investigation. This week, the Holland police arrested a man for the murder.
Now that’s a page one story. And if any of the work of these students and their professors leads to convictions, then justice will even up some entries in her black ledger.
UPDATE: Five more arrests. For details and links, read this post.
Wow!
And isn't that so much more productive than binge drinking and getting into all kinds of problems that college kids can get into. They are heroes.
