If you've tried reading Crimeblog.US, Steve Huff's flagship site, in the last couple days, you may have been prompted to download a file. Don't! Alas, Steve is encountering some technical glitches, along with some physical ones, as he explains on his personal blog. The site should be back up tomorrow, or shortly anyway, and yours truly plans to help him get everything ramped right back up with some new content as soon as it's all working properly again.
In the meantime, I've discovered that our Canadian cousins are hard at work on true crime tales of their own. From Harding I learned of a true crime radio program called "Crime and Punishment" that airs on several Canadian stations. The program is hosted by true crime author Mike McIntyre, and details are available at his website. If I hit my radio hard enough, I can sometimes get Canadian stations. Of course you're probably more sophisticated than I am and can listen on your computer. Recently he interviewed true crime blogger LiLO about the Katie's Revenge incident.
McIntyre's website also offers a plethora of interesting true crime links, and he also keeps up with breaking news in both Canada and the U.S., making "Mike McIntyre On Crime" a must-read website.
I'm also lucky enough to have access to CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corp.) -- Channel 9 in Windsor can be seen all over Hockeytown (a/k/a Detroit) -- Windsor, Ontario is due south of Detroit, believe it or not -- so I also get to enjoy its new true crime show, 72 Hours, modeled on the Emmy-winning U.S. program 48 Hours. The link above will take you to a piece from The Globe and Mail describing the first few shows in detail.
There is a perception in the true crime world that true crime "sells well" in the United States, but not so much elsewhere. These links should disprove that. For added evidence, consider that a true crime book recently shot to No. 1 in Scotland, which shows that murder, and interest in murder, knows no boundaries.
